In a very bizarre statement, IDF Commander Herzi Halevi tells troops “We are not on a campaign of killing, revenge, or genocide.”

The IDF commander Herzi Halevi, who is being accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, has sent a letter to his soldiers telling them that “We are not on a campaign of killing, revenge, or genocide.”

I’m glad he has clarified this, only that he is around four months late and his crimes, which are of Assadist proportions have already been committed and are well documented. It’s not as if the world will be convinced with a letter that this is not the result that Halevi wanted: total death and destruction in Gaza.

The letter reads like an admission of guilt by a man who is quivering at the sight of his own actions and the repercussions that he may face. Maybe he is worried he won’t be able to visit the French Riviera in Summer, but maybe he has a tiny shred of conscience left inside him that cripples him with doubt and anguish. Halevi is not only responsible for allowing the deliberate murder of Palestinian civilians, but he is also the General who deliberately killed the highest number of journalists in a conflict in recent history.  Bashar al-Assad is very proud that those who emulate him are now even exceeding him.

These are the words of a criminal who knows he has been caught and everyone knows what he did. He’s already struggling by having to live with it, so he has to start writing letters to exculpate himself.
