Robert Abela, is of course, genuinely worried about his history of money laundering coming to the surface, so he has called for the usual-back-up. Savour Balzan, Yorgen Fenech’s and the Labour Party’s favorite propagandist is coming to the rescue of Robert Abela. In every crisis where Robert Abela needs to cover up blatant criminality, he calls up Saviour Balzan. He did so twice, once to salvage himself from the crisis over his refusal to initiate a public inquiry over Jean Paul Sofia’s death, and the other time when Robert Abela announced the rehabilitation of Justyne Caruana and Rosianne Cutajar and other previous associates of Yorgen Fenech and Joseph Muscat.
Now, Saviour Balzan is tasked with spinning the story of Robert Abela’s Xewkija land purchases. He intends to do this by looking for the declaration of assets by past and current MPs and looking at any MPs who have used their wife to hide their assets or rather to deflate their wealth. The spin will be that everyone used to hide their wealth and Robert Abela wasn’t doing anything exceptional by making use of his wife’s bank account to make investments and large purchases.
However, the problem and the main crux of the story lies here: the money in Lydia Abela’s bank was composed not just of undeclared wealth, but also capital laundered from the illicit proceeds of drug sales by Christian Borg.
Nice move, Saviour. It’s a pity, yet at the same time, hilarious seeing you as the pathetic loser you have become after all these years pretending to be a journalist.
