There has been a lot of indignation at the Courts about leaks to the press of incriminating and damaging material on Yorgen Fenech and his associates in politics and the media. I welcome the indignation of the Courts and the authorities in the name of the law and this is why, I presume, Judge Edwina Grima and Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa are even more indignant at the fact that Yorgen Fenech procured a clean and finalised copy of Melvin Theuma’s presidential pardon before it was made public and before Yorgen Fenech was arrested. I’m sure that the Judge and the Police Commissioner would consider that the leaking of confidential data and information with the intent to help a murderer is a grave act, much more serious than leaks to journalists who are trying to inform the public what’s going on – but most probably they don’t.
Keith Schembri kept very close and regular contact with Yorgen Fenech with whom he exchanged a total of around 200 calls in the 9 months before he was arrested. Keith Schembri also communicated with Yorgen Fenech through his Personal Assistant, Charlene Bianco. The only person who could have given Yorgen Fenech a copy of Melvin Theuma’s pardon was either Keith Schembri, or Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, or someone else from the cabinet of Ministers. Given the very close proximity and repeated exchanges of communication between Yorgen Fenech and Keith Schembri, Keith Schembri was most the person most likely who leaked the document to Yorgen Fenech.
Yorgen Fenech proceeded to discuss this document with his lawyers, who back then had already chosen Giannella Caruana Curran and her office.ย Yorgen Fenech also discussed with his lawyers the frame-up that Keith Schembri was brewing against Chris Cardona, hoping that blame would be put completely on him. This frame-up seems to have been conjured in panic after Melvin Theuma was given his pardon. Eventually, Yorgen Fenech decides to try and leave the islands, hoping to reach a destination without an extradition treaty with Malta.
Nowadays, Keith Schembri is a free man. His best friend, Joseph Muscat wants to re-enter politics to save his skin and avoid prison. There are no meetings held by the Police Commissioner and the Judge to discuss the updates and developments of the investigation about Keith Schembri. No Judges or Magistrates have clenched their fists in anger about this. All the top senior police officers and prosecutors who were handling Keith Schembri’s money laundering case of Progress Press have resigned and the case is now being handled slowly and with little care at all. Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa is hardly livid, indifferent, unbothered, moisturized, happy, and in his lane, paying a ย3,000 monthly mortgage for a villa and keeping criminals safe.
Keith Schembri is getting away with it. One of the most corrupt fixers in the history of Maltese politics who was also involved in a murder of a journalist.
