Further to your point, being compared to Simon Busuttil is not the insult Labour seem to think it is. Although Busuttil failed to get his party elected into government, he was on the right side of history every time Labour were not. As an Opposition leader (a constitutionally important role regardless of whether one ever becomes the government), Busuttil fought a good fight against corruption. He believed in institutions (Malta is so rotten now that this view can be cynically seen as na?ve) and ran a campaign as clean as, for example, we all know Arnold Cassola would.
He was also progressive at heart and, given the chance, he would have very interestingly moved the Nationalist Party to the left. And he was also the co-author of one of the most intriguing political experiments in recent Maltese political history: a coalition of a major and a smaller political party (something which opposition parties need to reconsider if they want to defeat Labour). This is not to mention that Busuttil fought tooth and nail to get Malta in the EU while Joseph Muscat was striving just as hard to keep Malta isolated from its European peers.
Ultimately, Simon Busuttil has nothing to be ashamed of and it is Malta’s loss that it never got to have him as its prime minister. Can you imagine Simon Busuttil having anything other than a dignified, respectful and politically responsible response to a tragedy like Jean Paul Sofia’s? Of course not. He is, after all, not laundering cocaine money.
I personally don’t like how the EU calls every leader of each of its institutions a president (it sounds too grandiose and I think Speaker would be more fitting for her role than Madame President), however, regardless of title, Metsola is doing exceptionally well for Europe, Malta and herself. She is lucky to have had Simon Busuttil pave the way for her success and should be proud to have her name uttered in the same breath as his.
Simon Busuttil was a naive, puerile, self inflated clown who was used as a sacrifcial lamb by Gonzi and PN. He ended up inheriting one big dung heap left behind by gonzi, saliba, gatt, debono and co. In his ignorance he even dared to critisise the prime sustainers of the Nazzs over the ITS debacle. Silvio Debono quickly reminded him that DB were paying his salary and those of other leading Nazz officials. The Nazzs thought they were following the Labour Party’s succesful footsteps when they made Simon Busuttil their leader. They instead ended up with one big abysmal flop. Of course their current leader is no better.
Joseph Muscat, you together with your cabal, are nothing else but a crook and a cheapskate.
How can one compare your sorry corrupt and deceitful existence to that of Roberta Metsola?! She is a well respected EU president with distinguished credentials – whilst you, you scoundrel, have been voted Corrupt Person of the Year!

Firstly, you, of all people, I would have hoped would not be one of those falling to the clutches of the mainstream media, who are now regarded as corrupt brainwashing enterprises in the hands of the establishment and the deep state. This is the wide consensus, especially in America.
The likes of CNN, BBC, MSNBC, CBS etc have been indoctrinating people for years.
Start with Zelensky. Really!? There’s a reason Americans are against finding him, and will stop once Putin is elected. He’s just the western puppet presiding over a hugely corrupt kleptocracy. And the EU claps and calls him a hero.
Sure, Malta is a mafia state. Those who say this, and believe it, are simply uneducated, untravelled individuals who are unaware of the world around us. We cannot even be compared to most other countries and experience nowhere near the level of corruption seem in places like Ukraine. Bur go ahead, support EU funding, so they continue skimming off the top and funding Zelensky’s personal pockets and other kleptocratics.
The women who stood up to Putin. Really?! Does anyone really deeply and truly believe that? Do you think Putin even knows they “stepped up to him”. She is in way over her head.
For me Metsola lost it all when, in s LovinMalta interview a few years ago, had no clue what mass surveillance programmes are. This told me a lot about her knowledge on an international level. Let alone security and intelligence level.
I’d love to see her “stand up” to Putin once he’s marching forward and doesn’t have the US having the EUs’ back.
