As the press investigates the money laundering practices of Robert Abela and his wife Lydia Abela, Saviour Balzan has been busy concocting plans to deflect attention from this scandal and come to his master’s rescue. He finally, came up with something that was publishable. As Times of Malta got hold of a source at Bank of Valletta who explained to them that Robert Abela’s and Lydia Abela’s accounts were flagged for irregular behaviour, MaltaToday got hold of a document from the same bank that “confirmed” that everything was in good order and there was nothing to worry about. You can download the document here.
MaltaToday just paraphrased right away what Bank of Valletta has told them, that contradicted the source that spoke to Times of Malta. Of course, Bank of Valletta, which is government-controlled (chairman and board members are appointed by the government) will have many individuals inside it that will cover up and abet the corruption of members of the government. You can also note the blatant bias of MaltaToday with the type of headlines they produce. Something that the government announces is reproduced as a state of fact, but when critics of the government say something it is just an “allegation” (note the headline of Jason Azzopardi below). Most of thire headlines are just statements by the government or the Labour Party’s associates.
