I’ve read the news about Robert Aquilina stepping down as President of the Repubblika NGO with sadness. In the past few months, Robert Aquilina has received a lot of online attacks against him, apart from being increasingly threatened and harassed in the street and in public, even when in the presence of his wife. He is extremely hated by many Labour Party officials and associates and has been on the receiving end of a Labour Party propaganda campaign against him.
Robert Aquilina is a hero, selfless and a man of honour and integrity. It takes a lot of courage and determination to fight a corrupt government that hates you to death without any personal interest. Above all, Robert Aquilina has a lot fo good will and for this reason, he is aloes a man who deeply loves his country. His detractors, like Jason Micallef, have nothing on him apart from standing very short next to him in historical significance and importance.
I wish Robert Aquilina well and I hope we will still see him active in civil society because our country needs him. In the meantime, I also congratulate Vicki Ann Cremona who has been appointed as the new President of Repubblika.
