In a message published earlier today, Robert Aquilina has announced that he has resigned from the NGO Repubblika and his position at the Fondazione Falcone has been suspended pending his Court case. The resignation follows a domestic incident at his domicile and a report against him by his wife.
In his statement he said that he will defend his innocence in Court and that details of his private life were being closely monitored by the Police. He also returned to his domicile after being interrogated by the Police and after a Duty-Magistrate refused to issue an arrest warrant against him.
Multiple sources have told The Maltese Herald that the details of the case were leaked by the Police Commissioner directly to Saviour Balzan.
Robert Aquilina leaves behind a long legacy of fighting corruption and was one of the activists who helped bring the Vitals case to court.
