Rule of law, but through “blogs”, journalism, civil society and the Opposition

Keep writing your books and blogs” didn’t age well did it? This website was the first outlet to report the story that Kurt Buhagiar defrauded the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development to build his personal villa. Now, European Parliament candidate Peter Agius has reported this case to the European Anti-Fraud Office requesting to investigate it. Peter Agius is a veteran European Union bureaucrat and an MEP candidate with the Nationalist Party.

An investigation by OLAF would potentially recommend Kurt Buhagiar to be indicted on criminal charges in a local court. Note that the only major corruption cases ongoing in Maltese courts right now with regards to previous government officials and politicians are those cases which are related to European Union institutions, and these are John Dalli’s case and Frederick Azzopardi’s case. This is because the Maltese are so patriotic they only commit fraud with European Union funds and not their own government’s money.
