I was wrong on Kurt Buhagiar’s farm

I was wrong on Kurt Buhagiar’s farm and this is my fault for not having sent someone to verify the story on site. Unfortunately, my capabilities and resources are still low and publishing a lot of regular content by myself is not easy.

However, Peter Agius also makes a pertinent question asking how Kurt Buhagiar successfully got EU funds when he was not originally in the farming and agriculture business.

I Will do my best to improve my capabilities and stories and I apologise for any inconvenience.

  1. Are you sure that you were wrong, Mark?

The Times of Malta journalist inspected the 100 or so sheep but did not comment about whether the compound has living quarters. A villa with 100 pets is still a villa, right?

For the article to be really of substance, it should have gone into whether Kurt Buhagiar is running a commercially viable operation, and whether the number of sheep (wasn’t it supposed to be goats?) is normal for a farm of that footprint. Basically, we would need a comparison with other cattle farms to truly get to the bottom of whether this farm is legitimate. And that’s before even going into a comparison of the funding that other cattle farmers have got over the years.

To me, the article reads like (wait for it) Kurt Buhagiar pulling the wool over our eyes. It looks and sounds like a damage-limitation exercise rather than a real investigation of the whole deal. It leaves too many questions unanswered and still sounds fishy as hell.

I find it hard to believe that a regular Maltese farmer or shepherd would get the kind of funding Buhagiar got. To me, Buhagiar still comes across as a wolf in sheep’s clothing (ok, I’ll stop with these puns) and it should take more than a weak-sauce article and a controlled tour to exonerate him from wrongdoing

The wood is being missed for the trees. The sheep are registered by law. Who are they registered on? 100 sheep could be anywhere but that does not mean they are Kurt Buhagiar’s.
