More power stations for our Labour Party friends

Bonnici Brothers have been on an incredible winning streak as of lately, having snagged two large public contracts, one with the Mag?tab incinerator, and now, their latest with a new power station in Delimara. It’s also strange that Bonnici Brothers have suddenly become Malta’s top infrastructure development contractor.

The tender notice about the power plant can be found here, but the tender document is not public and for that you need a hefty deposit to acquire its copy. Enemalta is addressing energy generation capacity by adding a gas turbine with Shanghai Electric and now, adding a new temporary diesel plant. It should be noted however that last year’s Summer blackouts were caused by distribution failures, although increasing electric consumption is also a challange.

Another challenge is the Energy Minister Miriam Dalli’s complete lack of knowledge and skill in raising capital for energy projects. Everything has to be paid for by the government, and paid to friends and Labour Party donors because that’s the only way they know how to do literally anything.
