Gordon Debono, a previous fuel smuggler who is currently facing charges of money-laundering himself, has lashed out at Joseph Muscat upon news of his criminal charges. I find Gordon Debono’s invective quite amusing given he has been one of Malta’s notorious fuel smugglers during the Libyan Civil-War. Indeed, he has plenty of reasons to be angry with Joseph Muscat.
Gordon Debono says that he is angry with Joseph Muscat for falsely accusing him of being one of the masterminds of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder. This is, in fact, true, and Keith Schembri did concoct a fake story that fuel smugglers such as Gordon Debono and Darren Debono were responsible for the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
However, Gordon Debono is not mostly angry at Joseph Muscat and Keith Schembri for smearing him. He is angry at them because they cut-short many opportunities for him by handing over the contraband oil market to Darren Debono in 2013, a rival of Gordon Debono.
