Edward Scicluna is not resigning because he’s guilty

You’d have to be really crass and guilty as hell, to refuse to resign as Governor of the Central Bank as you are hauled to court over misappropriation of funds in the most high-profile criminal case in history.

Edward Scicluna can’t use the excuse of having been a government minister that found a corrupt contract which had to be honoured before it was struck down by a court. Even if this excuse is silly in most cases when dealing with corrupt contracts, it may have some legal weight to it. However, Edward Scicluna has nothing to clutch at but straws because he was the Minister of Finance since the very beginning the Vitals and VGH fraud was concocted. It was his responsibility as a technocrat and Minister of Finances to raise the red flag over these corrupt contracts and refuse to execute them.

Even if Edward Scicluna is not guilty, the decent thing to do would be to resign for the sake of the nation and the people around you. The Governor o the Central Bank is a representative of the economy’s stability and this is why the Governor has to be a person of untarnished reputation and undoubted integrity – it can’t be someone who is being hauled to court over criminal charges, especially if these criminal charges are related to money and finance.

Scicluna won’t be resigning, clearly showing that throughout his years in politics, he has been in it for himself: the type of person who would prioritise his personal interests at the expense of others and the nation. This is behaviour of someone who is guilty and who is criminal. He should drop the glasses because they are making him look better than he actually is and looks.
