John Portelli is one of Joseph Muscat’s most trusted bodyguards having followed him for a significant number of years even after he resigned as Prime Minister. He is seen here photographed in a meeting with Shaukat Ali in November 2015 at Tigne Point. Shaukat Ali, who is one of the Vitals investors being accused of fraud and money-laundering, used to buy gifts to Labour cabinet ministers and their staff and take them on shopping sprees to Zurich and Dubai.
It’s really telling that John Portelli meets them outside in the open at Tigne Point as if they are having a very legitimate and legal meeting. Joseph Muscat’s own personal messenger. Maybe his phone broke down and he had to send his messenger for a quick message delivery. Back then, Joseph Muscat was so powerful politically that he genuinely believed that he was invincible and that nothing he did was ever going to come back at him.
