Unpresidential, treacherous and unfit for purpose

President Myriam Spiteri Debono has released a very bizarre statement warning people “not to fall for provocation”. These were the same words used by Supreme Leader Robert Abela last week. Their message is directed at the Labour mob that will ascend to the Courts of Law building next Tuesday when ex-Premier Joseph Muscat is arraigned.

Basically, the President is warning the Labour mob  who will be protesting against the judiciary in front of the law courts  “not to fall for provocation”, implying, just like Supreme Leader is doing, that the judiciary, journalists and the Opposition are “provoking” Joseph Muscat’s supporters.

The President is supposed to be the last defender of the Maltese State and at a time when the State is being decapitated and attacked by the government and the Labour Party, the President has decided to treacherously abandon her stately responsibilities to accommodate the violent mob that will congregate in front of the Courts of Law building on the 28th of May.

I hate to say I told you so, but President Myriam Spiteri Debono is a close associate of the Abela dynasty and that’s the only reason why she was appointed President. So, now apart from having an Attorney-General and a Police Commissioner who betray the State and cover-up for criminals, we also have a President that is giving advice to Labour mobs who want to decapitate the State while inferring blame unto their enemies.

Those who love the Maltese State have no choice but to increase their efforts to defend it as the President betrays us and throws us to the dogs. I say this in the most serious and patriotic intent. We don’t need the President to defend the State if she is choosing this treacherous route. Great leaders who love our state, nation, and country will inevitably emerge, as has always been the case, and will put to shame the current criminal Labour establishment.

Mark, that’s only one interpretation of her words. It may be too soon to figure her out. Let’s bear in mind that, clearly, she is no in a position to initiate a quarrel with RA. The pressures around her to use the right words are likely to be huge and in the end she’s only a figurehead.

Had she refused to pardon the welfare scams, it might have been unfair for those who may very well have been misled/scammed themselves. But cunning RA (who wants to retain votes) put all the fake beneficiaries in one basket and asked her to grant a collective pardon.
The pardon does come after certain conditions are fulfilled.
Could she, should she have made a distinction between the varying levels of criminal intent or would that have been a very complicated task not worth pursuing?

The mens rea, or intention to commit the crime, is for our courts to evaluate and judge, and nit an infamous political decision, sanctioned by a President that on this issue could have taken her own stand

        Very true, Paul.
However, I may or may not be right in supposing that someone who may be illiterate, semi-illiterate and/or uneducated about how the Welfare System is supposed to work, can easily be duped into making an appearance at some office for some poorly understood financial reward. And if someone had already been on a very low income, adjudication becomes harder.
Plus the conditional collective pardons would appear to save a lot of case by case court time.
