The Malta Union of Teachers will be renegotiating the proposed agreements with the Ministry of Education

The Malta Union of Teachers will be renegotiating several parts of the proposed agreement made to it by the Ministry of Education. Negotiations will be opened again after, Union members, mostly from the lower end of the grades and others in the most senior bracket of over 25 years of service protested to have been dismissed from having a significant sum increase compared to those in the 20 years bracket. Many members are still unaware of the proposals being made especially LSEs with most of this confusion on what is being proposed stemming from the fact that the MUT hasn’t sent a copy of the agreement to all of its members.

There’s a flagrant difference between Teachers and LSEs. For MUT LSEs are not even considered. They would not even recognise them. Though, if it weren’t for the LSE’s dedication, teachers would not even do a lesson with some of the students, because of their issues. Another difference is that, especially in secondary, LSEs have to stay in class for the whole day, whilst teachers only come and go for the lesson. In primary, they also have other responsibilities which teachers don’t even take the responsibility of doing.

So you will never find any recommendation of increases or allowances for LSE by the MUT.
