Meanwhile, in the world of decency and normality, there were emotional scenes at the annual D-Day commemorations in Normandy, France, this week as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met D-Day veterans. Few veterans remain alive with many of them being 100-years old or older.
Held on the 6th of June, the ceremony commemorated the 80th-year anniversary when US troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in France to begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany. A year earlier, on the 10th July 1944, US troops that left from Malta had landed on Sicily.
