Robert Abela twice rejected a proposal to decriminalise abortion: once by independent MP Marlene Farrugia and the other time by the women’s lobby when reforms were proposed after the Andrea Prudente case. Now, the Labour Party’s internal strategists want the Party to propose an abortion-decriminalisation-bill in an attempt to disrupt PN and bring back some of liberal-minded people it has lost.
Robert Abela is in a very weak position within the Party right now, with senior Party strategists, who mainly work in the shadows, having more power and influence over him and his inner circle. This is because, when things go bad for Labour, senior Party officials and Ministers automatically become more prominent and authoritative as guidance is increasingly sought from them instead of from the leader.
