Yesterday, the PN daily newspaper In-Nazzjon have published feature on my story about Robert Abela fuming at his MEPs for conducting a political campaign gravitating around Joseph Muscat. Essentially, what has just happened with the last European Parliament elections was that the Labour Party candidates, Daniel Attard and Alex Agius Saliba have thrown a lifeline to Joseph Muscat in exchange for his support. Both of them got elected and Alex Agius Saliba got elected with a relatively high margin of votes having got 63,899 votes.
Alex Agius Saliba’s massive result is a show of force for Joseph Muscat and quite literally an electoral victory to him considering this election was a shadowy battle between Joseph Muscat and Robert Abela. The Labour Party got 117,805 votes in this electron and 45.26% of votes cast. Then we have to factor in another 11,000 first preference votes that have gone to Daniel Attard, apart from supporters of Joseph Muscat who voted for other Labour Party candidates. As Joseph Muscat’s representative, Alex Agius Saliba shows that the majority of the Labour Party voters in this election support Joseph Muscat.
This puts Robert Abela in a difficult situation, however his bigger problem is that he doesn’t have a clue what to do about this mess. His Party’s followers still support a previous Prime Minister and Party Leader who is being accused of some of the worst crimes in our political history, but what did Robert Abela expect, really? After these years of covering-up for him, protecting him, praising him, and even taking photos with him to ensure his followers that his previous friend and master is an acceptable member of society? In these four years, the Labour Party could have made plenty of work to ensure that Joseph Muscat is weakened politically apart from ensuring that justice is swiftly and quickly made. Instead, Robert Abela fumbled it.
It’s rather late that Robert Abela is realising that Joseph Muscat can drag him down along with all of the Labour Party. It’s better late than being sorry, but insulting Alex Agius Saliba won’t help much, and the imbecile still has no regrets about it. I wonder who enticed him with Banana Republic-style discourses on “Establishment” and whatnot. It seems like that this is Robert Abela’s own mess and he should own it.
The Labour Party has two options. Either keep its current status quo and lead us further to Banana-Criminal-Republic status, or else declare war against Joseph Muscat. Robert Abela is a pathetic coward, so he’ll probably chose the former.
