As usual, this kind of stuff may not be of great interest to many readers; however, it is something in which we have a direct stake.
Lou Bondi is in the news lately, for a report and a speech he made for the President of Malta. He used to be a great journalist until Joseph Muscat and Keith Schembri bought his silence, and today, he works for the President. The Presidency has this campaign called “State of the Nation” and Lou Bondi is one of its consultants. The Presidency is fulfilling its role in providing direction and guidance to the State, however this should warrant a strong Leadership by the Presidency.
Lou Bondi is proposing to abolish Party media because they have overwhelming dominance in the broadcasting industry. The Labour Party also has overwhelming dominance in the press industry through its control of the Broadcasting Authority, apart from influencing the press through direct government subsidies and control.
I disagree with Lou Bondi. Political parties will also have their own media outlets and there is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that we don’t have a free market and both Labour and PN are benefiting from great privileges due to legal impunity and lavish government subsidies that keep their operations ongoing.
I have the VAT department on my neck just for delaying my VAT payments of this year, bank staff panicking and making calls over the provenance of a ย2,000 transaction (that ultimately originated from my main account) and my electricity providers will cut my supply if I don’t pay my bills, but Labour and PN can get away with everything and delay their bills for infinity.ย On top of that, they get government subsidies from media adverts and PR and Saviour Balzan can barge in at Castille and demand the government to bankroll all of his costs.
Just give us a free market and fuck off.
I’m launching my media house and lawyering up later on this year. If you want to join us we are hiring.
