The Labour Party is transit, but the destination is unknown

The Labour Party is still awaiting a direction forward by its leader and Prime Minister, Robert Abela. After the Labour Party’s bad result of the European Parliament elections, Robert Abela has done nothing so far but putting the blame on his senior officials and his pro-Joseph Muscat MEPs, however he’s short of providing leadership and a way forward to this mess.

On the other hand, his Ministers and MPs have serious trust issues with him and none of them want to be seen to be associated with his next move that would supposedly provide a new direction, if any. Most of them know that Robert Abela has damaged the Labour Party to a great extent by allowing it to be associated with Joseph Muscat and, in addition, by attacking the justice system for his sake. There’s fear and loathing as they secretly prefer to change the leader and put an immediate end to Joseph Muscat’s influence over the party, but none of them want to make the first step to ask Robert Abela to resign.

Labour’s top brass knows that the only political solution for them is to cut their ties with Joseph Muscat completely and restore the rule of the law, so that then, they could move on and conduct politics as a conventional political party rather than a criminal organisation that is ensuring to protect him. The suspicion is that Robert Abela’s anger at Muscat may just end there.

Robert Abela is doing the numbers with Aleander Balzan and he seems to be finding comfort in the fact that he can still win a relative majority and the general election if he retains his current status quo. Robert Abela is also betting that the football season will make people forget of Labour’s woes and things could go back to normal. As the days pass without Robert Abela taking any definite action, the suspicion is growing that fundamentally nothing will change and Robert Abela will retain the status quo. A cowardly decision will lead to the inevitable result.

Now, that Joseph Muscat has dragged the Labour Party down with him, the probability for the Labour Party to win the general elections will be incredibly lower. As of things stand right now, the Labour Party will go to the general elections as the Party of and for Joseph Muscat and the public is clearly in he majority against Muscat. In these circumstances, the Nationalist Party is very most definitely set to win the general elections unless it fumbles it.

  1. The PN needs two more cycles to win a general election. They think that they will win by default, but they won’t as they are not even trying to come out with a proposal or anything.

The PN is making minimal gains. Assuming that weekend labor implies a PN victory is a huge mistake. PL will probably win the next election, even if Joseph Muscat gets arrested and the party faces further humiliation. All of Malta already knows that JM is corrupt, and that won’t change the deep-seated disdain many in the electorate have toward PN.

I agree with you to the extent that PN has to show it is different from that of 2005 – 2013 for it to be electable

Labour will never renounce corruption, with or without Abela and Muscat. What the ministers are doing is calculating the better option to ensure revenue streams and voter support.

  4. Kemm huma boloh! If anyone at all has clearly deceived another, he or she is clearly capable of deceiving anyone – including their spouse, their brother, their sister, their mother and their father etc. Never mind deceiving the electorate.
The whole idea of LOYALTY (no matter one’s behaviour) is for the delusional. The delusional are (i) those who expect it as well as (ii) those who temporarily (until they know better) confer it.
And usually it is conferred to some weak bully assuming high political status.

Even the secret activities of freemasons can and have been exposed. More of that. And that’s when the shit truly hits the fan.

Labour will still win the next G.E with a marginal majority which will see the return of normality between the two main political parties. It was a resounding glory for the Labour Party that since 2013 they kept winning the elections by massive majorities but a huge dissapiontment for stanuch Labourites who witnessed their party being transformed into a latrine for all manner of turncoats and opportunists. Most of these nazzi turncoats gained promotions, employment and lavish government contracts at the expense of hard core labourites. District LP committees and Local Councils have been ignored or reduced to mere collectors of funds or membership for the party. Nazzi contractors the likes of Schembri brothers, Vassallo brothers and Caqnu who have always been traditional Nazzi sustainers, have been rewarded with regular lavish public contracts. The recent MEP and Local councils elections now indicate clearly that hard times lie ahead for Labour and that they can only rely on the nucleus of supporters who have always supported the Party regardless of who leads it. These election results have vindicated the true loyal Labourites whose voices may hopefully now be noticed and heard. It is counter productive for loyal labour supporters for the the LP to keep winning the GE with a massive majority. The Party must now set about getting rid of the sycophant puerile imbeciles and opportunists (e.g Karl Stagna Navarra) and start strenghtening the network of local committees, party delegates and transfer more authority to them. I cannot undestand why RA keeps saying that we need to move closer to the common citizens when all the Ministries including the OPM have their own so called Customer care units. Scrap the lot. They have failed and will keep failing. Gozo is one huge typical example.
