I’m watching this clip by Julian Delia and Newz.mt again, and I can’t help think how unusual it is for the Police Commissioner to attend a Court session dressed in a suit and tie instead of being dressed in his uniform.
Police Officers are allowed to wear their full-uniforms when in Court and it also gives the much needed authoritative effect for the Police in their status as executors of the law.
Wearing a tie in Court as a Police Commissioner gives the impression that the Police Commissioner is a bureaucrat like any other, but in reality he isn’t and he isn’t a normal citizen. He is the Law and its direct representative and as the Police Commissioner he should be able to evoke the law’s authoritative nature. This also pairs with the argument that the Police Commissioner should be more present in Court to make his authoritative presence felt.
