Donald Trump has been handed a court victory earlier this week. The US Presidency in November is now overshadowed by the issue of presidential immunity of a potential President who once said that he “wants to be a dictator”.
In a ruling issued yesterday by the Supreme Court, it stated that the US President enjoys broad immunity from the law while in office. You can read the ruling here. The Court’s decision came in response to a challenge made by Trump regarding charges accusing him of overturning the 2020 election. President Joe Biden said that the Court ruling “undermines the rule of law.”
President Richard Nixon who was impeached from the presidency and pardoned by President Gerald Ford in 1974 would have been pleased with this outcome. He has a popular quote from his interview with David Frost saying “Well, when the President does it, it is not illegal.”
