Following my article published earlier today, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri has sent me a reply which I am reproducing in full.
“Bon?u. Hemm international u European arrest warrant. Jekk jog??bok iddirezjona l-mistoqsijiet tieg?ek lill-awtoritajiet kompetenti. Grazzi”
Jomic Calleja Maatouk was not served with an international arrest warrant. He was served with a European arrest warrant through Europol and the warrant was removed from the online wanted list as soon as he was arrested by the Libyan police in May.
You would expect that in a serious case where a Maltese citizen was murdered abroad, the Minister of Home Affairs or the Prime Minister would give a press conference to outline all the details of the case that should be known to the public.
The reality is that the Minister of Home Affairs doesn’t have any update on Jomic Calleja Maatouk in Libya. Then there is the reality that this is not a serious or a normal government and it can’t even guarantee the security of Maltese citizens.

Previously, the Maltese government ignored requests by the Libyan prosecutor to extradite Lilu l-King, (actual name Mohammed al-Musrati).
