The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that its forces have entered the outskirts of Chasiv Yar of the Novyy District, in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, a couple of kilometers away from the outskirts of Bakhmut. Bakhmut was captured by the Russian private Wagner Group on May last year.
These small Russian gains in the frontlines are coming at the cost of tens of thousands of Russian troops every week. Russian forces first move forward with a mass of troops who are shelled and bombed by Ukrainian defense forces. After the Russians locate the Ukrainian positions through their firing, the Russians target the Ukrainian positions with heavy bombs, rockets and artillery until more advanced and well-trained and equipped regular forces move in to attempt to capture key positions.
More than half a million Russian soldiers have died so far, with more than 1.6 million Russians wounded.
