Rushing to conclude the agreement

Once again, as the Malta Union of Teachers presented the updated agreement by the Ministry of Education to its members, the MUT is now once again rushing its members to sign the agreement, telling them that they may lose all that they are being offered them if they fail to sign soon.

I don’t understand how the government can ever withdraw salary proposals to a trade union in a trade negotiation: the government is not a private corporation and the method of its negotiations is prescribed by political realities more than efficient trading negotiation methodologies.

The MUT has consistently insisted that its members sign an agreement without providing the actual agreement for them to review beforehand.

This is a tactic that Marco Bonnici uses in EVERY collective agreement vote. He makes all kinds of threats to scare members into approving whatever collective agreement he proposes to them.

From where do you get the information? We have voted for an agreement that we could see and read. I think that if we voted for it now, it’s because we agree with it. Now we hope to get what we deserve as soon as possible!

  3. And yet another teachers’ collective agreement to be signed which only discusses allowances and not conditions of work. So, as soon as the new collective agreement is signed, issues about assessment, school development plans, class visits, etc remain unsolved.
