Chris Fearne is betting that Court proceedings against him will continue giving him better results before making any political moves, however at this point, just like Prime Minister Robert Abela, he risks being guilty of complacency and letting the Labour Party down.
Currently, Chris Fearne enjoys stronger backing than Robert Abela in the Labour Party Parliamentary group and surely trust ratings would put him much favourable as Prime Minister with the general public than the current incumbent. As Robert Abela withdraws into hiding instead of reacting to the electoral result by taking new and decisive decisions, the Labour Party, its Parliamentary Group and and even the government is expecting this leadership void to be filled. So far, Chris Fearne has the biggest moral authority to fill the gap, but he risks demoralising the idea of change in the Party if he fails to take action.
Chris Fearne’s campaign for the Labour Party leadership in 2020 was marked with consistent errors and a strategic fiasco. Carmen Ciantar who back then was his effective chief of staff, was inexperienced for political conflict and it is only obvious, by the revelations made as of now, that she was leading a political war against adversaries who were much more sophisticated and bigger.
Today, Chris Fearne will do the same mistake if he doesn’t get serious and combative about his political mission. He also risks alienating the general public by appearing too complacent and apologetic to his previous masters who undermined him. He needs to start speaking up and being more decisive and transparent in his positions whilst leaving altogether the theatrical propaganda of the Labour Party. Gloves are off at this point and he can’t naively expect that Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa will be of any help, let alone come to the rescue, either.
