Nothing is sacred anymore (part two)

Damato Records in Valletta have removed the damaged HMV sign: it was one of the oldest shop-signs still standing and was damaged by a construction truck.

It’s removal is a fitting symbol to an end of an era of local culture and beauty that was cut short by the hubris of the Labour government’s Dubai-styled rent-seeking and criminal-money-laundering regime. From local concerts, bookshops and record stores to government subsidised concerts by international pop-stars. Gladiator and Jurassic Park and private parties with Russel Crowe, but local film producers are leaving. From a fledgling literary industry to vindictive expulsions at the National Book Council. From a beautiful landscape to a construction site. I could go on.

Truly a mesmerising spectacle of self-destruction.

Nothing new: the Maltese destroyed their country the minute they got their hands on independence. Vandalism, brigandage and philistine outlook is part of the Maltese social culture and identity.

The country of Malta has done nothing but fail as an institution. Each and every way you look.
