Robert Abela has gained a reputation with Labour Party members and delegates of doing everything according to his own personal self-interest. Every political move he did so far was strictly in his realm of self-interests in terms of what he sees as political image, career, wealth, power and so on.
Now that things have become exceedingly difficult for the Labour Party, Robert Abela is being compelled to directly take on Joseph Muscat’s faction in Labour, as this faction is now threatening him directly. The reality is that the Labour Party may have very well tolerated the corrupt excesses of its own government, but when it comes to the Party’s existential status, a red line is drawn. Inherently, in order to survive, the Labour Party will have no qualms to take on Joseph Muscat.
Having wasted four years with a deputy-leadership race coming soon, Robert Abela may be too fearful to risk an outright war, so instead he has to do it surgically and methodigcally in a multi-pronged manner, in a way that would squeeze Joseph Muscat of his resources (criminal proceeds) and basically remove his organisational power in the Labour Party. To do this, Robert Abela needs to restore the rule of law so that Joseph Muscat faces the full force of the law.
It seems like Chris Fearne’s camp was right therefore because we are back to square one. The Labour Party has wasted four years to get to this inevitable conclusion and it is still doubting its next step. Four years just so that Robert Abela can have in his CV listed “Prime Minister of Malta.”
Either way, the Labour Party has to take a hit, and gradually begin a DeJosephisation of the Party even in terms of propaganda. Khrushchev seems to have arrived late, as he was probably stuck somewhere indulging in his vices
