Joseph Muscat and Jason Micallef are already short of a majority in the Labour Party

Jason Micallef, who is contesting the Labour Party’s Deputy-Leadership race is already short of a majority, and to a large degree. Three Labour Party stalwarts have all lined up against him, and they all have a significant reach with the delegates of their districts. These are Glenn Bedingfield (South Kottonera), Chris Bonett (Northern Harbour) and Clint Camilleri (Gozo).

Jason Micallef may have some reach with the delegates of the his district and central areas, if any. These also coincide with Joseph Muscat’s district given that Muscat is from Burmarrad.

I highly doubt whether the South-?urrieq district will rally behind Jason Micallef given the presence of veterans and Mintoffians. Same with Naxxar where Duminku has an overarching influence, therefore limiting Jason Micallef’s reach even in his own district and nearby areas.

Jason Micallef may have connections in Gozo, but at the end of the day, it’s the government ministers who call the shots there and Gozitan Minister, Clint Camilleri has an extensive reach given the excess in public employment and expenditure by his ministry. Anton Refalo who has been covered up for his theft of the historical British-era sign, will be compelled to hand over his delegates to Robert Abela.

Basically, the race hasn’t even started, Jason Micallef doesn’t even have a contender yet, and he has already lost. Now, it’s just a matter for the Labour Party to find an alternative candidate or until someone else shows up.
