Vinesh Phogat defeats wrestling world champion Yui Sasaki and heads to the Wrestling Final in the Paris Olympics

Vinesh Phogat becomes the first female wrestler from India to win a Silver Medal in the Olympics after beating previously undefeated world champion, Yui Susaki from Japan in the Paris Olympics’ wrestling semi-finals. She will be facing-off Sarah Hildebrandt from the United States later today.

Vinesh Phogat was one of the Indian wrestlers who lead a protest movement against the Wrestling Federation of India and its President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for sexually harassing female Indian athletes for years. Her demands were finally met in December 2023 after the government suspended the committee of the WFI. She also teared a ligament in one of her knees during the Rio Olympics of 2016.

    Update: Vinesh was later disqualified because she was over the 50KG limit by 100 grams. Not even a piss! I cant imagine how she must be feeling at the moment. I hope her character is as strong as her fighting skills.
