Ukraine invades Russia and occupies Sudzha city in the Kursk Oblast

Earlier this week, a group of around 1,000 soldiers from the Ukrainian Armed Forces that including troops from the Georgian Legion and pro-Ukrainian Russian paramilitaries, invaded Russia’s Kursk Oblast. The invading troops have occupied the city of Sudzha, which is the main transit point of Gazprom’s last pipeline to Europe, a pipeline that has recently been blocked from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine conducted missile and drone strikes deep into Russian territory including in Lipetsk and Novvy Oskol, attacking an airbase and a military vehicle-repair station respectively. Ukrainian drones also targeted Russian units in the Belgorod region.

Several Russian military convoys headed to Sudzha were destroyed, ensuring control of the city for Ukrainian forces. This is not the first time that Russia has been invaded by Ukrainian forces, but it is the first time they have held their position for so long.

Russia has declared a Federal Emergency in the Kursk Oblast and has offered up to $110 for everyone who evacuates.
