Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hosted Azerbaijan’s President in Rome, Ilham Aliyev talk gas deals. Italy is the biggest European importer of Azerbaijan’s gas and plans to buy even more of it in the years ahead. Italy is set to receive up to 9.6 billion cubic meters of gas this year from Azerbiajan comprising most of Azerbiajan’s exports to Europe.
Azerbaijan supplies most of its gas to Italy through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) that goes through Turkey and Greece. The EU is also supporting a plan to replace the last remaining Russian gas flows through Ukraine by Azerbaijan. On the other hand, Azerbaijan’s enthusiasm over new investments is decreasing since last year as gas prices have crashed.
