Confusion still reigns on Israel’s offer to Hamas over the remaining hostages

Previous Israeli Brigadier General Gal Hirsch is being quoted from a Bloomberg interview as the “chief Israeli negotiator with Hamas” after having said:

“I’m ready to provide safe passage to Sinwar, his family, whoever wants to join him. We want the hostages back.”

However, Gal Hirsch is not the chief negotiator for Israel, but actually the official liaison of the hostages and their families with the Israeli government and his actual title is “Coordinator for the Captives and the Missing of Israel”.

The Israeli chief negotiator with Hamas over the hostages is Mossad’s leader David Barnea.

Gal Hirsch doesn’t have the authority to make such a bold offer and his claims may not be backed by the Israeli government. He may actually be making these claims to further pressure his own stubborn government to make a deal.
