There should be laws for politicians against this kind of treacherous behaviour. Local politicians swear an oath to the Maltese State and this oath should be carried by them to their grave. They can’t, and should not leave their allegiances to the Maltese state for opportunistic and rent-seeking missions with foreign states, especially if these states are hostile and dictatorial powers.
Evarist Bartolo has a right to free speech and he can express his stupid views as much as he likes. However, as a previous Maltese Minister and member of parliament, he’s going extremely out of line accepting payments to travel to dictatorships to speak out against Malta’s foreign policy. This behaviour is outright treacherous and should not be allowed by the Maltese state. Laws should be drawn up to prevent this outrageous behaviour by Maltese politicians.
He has been going abroad, funded by foreign states ever since he failed to get elected in Parliament in 2022. One of his first paid trips he did was to Turkey where he met his previous friends and allies whom he allowed to take over Malta’s maritime border when he was Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Recently, he went on another paid trip to China where he condemned Malta’s foreign policy for being close to the West.
He is also condemning the EU for banning Russian State propaganda and RT. He says that he likes watching RT to consume “different views”. RT is Russia’s state propaganda unit that constantly produces propaganda justfying Russia’s war crimes among other heinous matters. You can still watch RT in Europe with a VPN (which is legal) so in practice there are no restrictions, and the official ban only serves as a security measure by the EU to prevent the proliferation of Russian disinformation aimed at disrupting Western democracies. Free speech is not allowed in Russia where Western media are banned. Russia has also incarcerated various Western journalists but our own local traitor wants the EU to lift its restrictions on RT.
Now, finally, Evarist Bartolo has admitted he is on the payroll of dictatorships by saying that he is being commissioned by Bahrain, an Islamic dictatorship and monarchy to give a course on diplomacy. I wonder from where he got his credentials to do this. He is a school-teacher by profession but masquerades as a media expert for having been a Labour propagandist, and now, he is also a diplomat.
Evarist Bartolo went from being a local political grifter to becoming an international mouthpiece for dictators. Today he has a group that reminds me about Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici’s bizarre octogenarian anti-Western NGO that used to meet at the 60A. He is following his footsteps into irrelevance, with the difference that Karmnenu Mifsud Bonnici was a genuine man who never recieved any payment from foreign states. On the other hand, Evarist Bartolo went full-on grifter.
