The Labour government and its ministers have been so accustomed at taking over everything and occupying every single space available in society, that they also feel entintled they own the press. Of course, this is more of a rethorical comment because the government and the Labour Party do own most of the press in various ways.
There’s a lot of frustration with these kinds of articles because, apparently, government ministers find them embarrassing. And why wouldn’t they feel embarrassed? After all, it’s they themselves who are embarrassing themselves by getting into such situations in the first place.
The Minister for Culture, who was seen here inaugarating a public letrine with the Marsaxlokk Local Council sent me an email through his lawyer, Phlip Magri of Refalo Advocates explaining his back story about why and how he ended up in that situation (taking photos with the Marsaxlokk Local Council inaguaruting a public letrine). “Don’t be so ridiculous”, I replied, and I told him that I wasn’t going to publish his statement. That is not what “Right of Replies” are for, but the government Minister actually feels entintled to have published his explanation in full for every stupid thing he does. “I know I am stupid and opportunistic, but I can explain”. Just when he told us that he didn’t know who Lilu l-King was after he took photos with him for Instagram.
Government ministers feel aggrieved and misrepresented simply because public photos of them are shared with an audience different from the one for which the photos were actually intended.
“I know the photo makes me look stupid, but let me explain.”
Hilarious. And we are supposed to care and be part of this theatre?
They are crying foul against the press and now want to muzzle it as the possibility of Labour losing the elections grows ever wider. They can’t fathom the idea of losing power, and they are only becoming more frustrated with this looming reality.
