Paying off government largesse with income tax

Being unable to control the excesses if his ministerial colleagues, the Minister of Finance Clyde Caruana is managing to balance the government’s budget by collecting more taxes, namely income tax. Being tougher on tax collection has been a hallmark policy of this Minister ever since taking office as Finance Minister and no one can contest this record of his.

On the other hand, the government is still spending public funds as if it was running a party, or an actual criminal organisation, with the government increases, indeed, going for excesses and not salaries for necessary personnel.

    You receive an income tax bill via a registered letter, but you never signed for it, and the tax it’s claiming is over eight years old. This seems like a common tactic used by the government, relying on the fact that those who are intimidated will pay. Despite receiving annual tax returns confirming that everything is paid, they still send these outdated demands. It may be a game to some, but it could potentially bring in millions for the government from those who comply out of fear.
    What is the point Minister of issuing cheques, only to follow up with registered letters threatening court action if payment isn’t made within 30 days ?
