What renewal? The Labour Party is going backwards in every aspect

I suppose that the word “renewal” in this Times of Malta article should have been placed in quotation marks.

“Renewal” is often used to describe a process whereas someone or an entity rebuild themselves possibly with positive effects to whatever they are doing. The Labour Party didn’t renew itself: it changed its leadership posts by giving some of them to Joseph Muscat’s associates to appease, him hurting the Labour Party even more in the process. Cartoon Network outlets served as convenient media platforms for Muscat’s associates in this process, and kept back from criticising what was actually going on.

Supreme Leader Robert Abela is blaming the press for his political woes and so are his ministers. The Labour Party is increasingly being reactive in an authoritarian manner to its increasing dismissal by the electorate. When Labour was riding the high waves, it didn’t mind giving more freedoms to the press, but now it wants to go back just like the party is regressing backwards in everything else.

In essence, there’s absolutely no change whatsoever in how the Prime Minister runs the country – a Labour Party fiefdom run by a Devil’s Pact between Robert Abela and Joseph Muscat. The Labour Party can’t renew itself by conserving this pact. For the Labour Party to get rid of this pact it would mean to reinvent itself but even then, there will be trust issues.

The electorate will find it incredibly difficult to trust the Labour Party once again if it is forced to reinvent itself whilst in Opposition. The window for redemption, if it exists at all, is closing soon considering the date of the next general election.

  1. What the two recent surveys suggest is not a win for the NP. What they do indicate is that Labour is on a downward spiral. Uncontrolled. At some point, the glorified financial utopia will crumble and the country will have a huge problem. Lots of people who got used to doing FA but still earning good money suddenly having their income reduced. TCNs have a huge appetite for jobs the Maltese no longer want to do. They will accept far less money for jobs in the IT and financial industries. It will get worse when AI agents start replacing mid tier jobs. Depression and stress levels increase, crime increases. What is Labour doing to prevent all this? Absolutely nothing. Labour keeps feeding the 30% whose lives depend on food, sleep, booze and little in terms of insightful, interesting, productive, value added work which ensures the brain does not get sick and neural redundancy is enhanced. Very bleak future. The majority need to get a grip. Fast.
