After a grueling weekend with the IT team, we have finally completed the launch of The Maltese Herald, which has replaced markcamilleri.org. The website is still being updated, and its technical issues are currently being addressed. The mobile version will be functional soon. However, the site is live and will be producing content, including news, investigations, and current affairs.
As the newest entrant in the Maltese press industry, we are committed to producing high-quality news content and journalism with a critical perspective, free from vested interests and obligations. I, Mark Camilleri, am the sole owner of Dar Camilleri and The Maltese Herald, and we operate as an independent newsroom. You can read our philosophy here.
The newsroom currently consists of four individuals: Ruth Zammit DeBono, a journalist & newscaster and our news editor; Gerald Fenech, another veteran journalist who will be editing the Sports section; David Hudson as Culture Editor; and myself as the main editor and owner. I will continue writing my pieces here, just as I did on markcamilleri.org.
In order to fund this new, exciting, yet very risky venture, I have published a book which can be accessed and read online via a subscription purchase of the The Maltese Herald. If we net 10,000 subscribers this website’s long-term survival will be guaranteed and the staff can be promoted from part-time positions to full-time positions. We believe our target is realistic and achievable, considering that the book is a sequel to the best-seller A Rent-Seekers’ Paradise, which sold more than 5,000 copies.
