Independent politician Arnold Cassola has filed a submission to the Ombudsman, requesting him to investigate the directive issued by the Ministry of Education to censor teachers.
The directive, which was first published here, orders teachers and educators to request permission from their superior before speaking to the press so as “not to compromise the integrity of the education system”.
Arnold Cassola argued that the censorship directive is primarily intended to ensure that only pro-Labour educators are allowed to express their views publicly
He also asked why the teachers’ unions have been silent on this issue. MUT have not issued a statement on the directive but the UPE have commented against the directive on their public channels.
