The Maltese Herald spoke to a participant at the “II Summit: Partnership, Innovation and Veterans’ Health” organised by Ukrainian NGOs and the Ukrainian Center of Civil Society. The event, one of many in a series held in Brussels to promote and support the reintegration of Ukrainian military veterans into society, was targeted with a gas attack, prompting an immediate response from the Belgian authorities.
The participant informed us via a Ukrainian-English translator that:
“Some people really don’t want Europe to help Ukraine. But we will overcome this.
This time there was a provocation. At the end of the summit, someone sprayed gas in a coffee shop. Several delegates developed coughing and throat irritation.
The police and emergency services responded quickly to our message, demonstrating their professionalism and our responsibility for all those present. Who could have done this? We are currently investigating. The Belgian authorities are currently studying the details of the incident, and Ukrainian diplomatic representatives are in contact with Belgian agencies.”
We have also sent questions to the Belgian authorities, and we are awaiting a response.
