Sliema ASC win LEN Challenger Cup group

Sliema ASC continued their excellent form in the LEN Challenger Cup by beating their opponents in the third match of the group Carouge Natation of Switzerland 16-5.

Yesterday, Sliema also won their second encounter, beating Club Fluvial Portuense 15-7. Sliema are thus top of their group with three wins from three games.

With both teams having lost their opening fixture, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Carouge Natation were both desperate to take all the points from their clash on Saturday evening.

Former Marseille players Romain Blary and Hugo Roscio got the Swiss side off to a great start, as they both struck twice to give them a 2-4 advantage at the first break.

The momentum was with Carouge Natation, and their dominance really began to show in the second quarter. They opened up a four-goal lead (4-8), thanks largely to a ruthless 0-4 surge.

In the second half, Tel Aviv continued to fade as they struggled to stop the attacking Swiss waves. Roscio and captain Blary finished with six and four goals, respectively, as they helped steer their team to a comprehensive 7-18 victory.

Later, hosts Sliema ASC were in prolific form once again, sweeping Clube Fluvial Portuense aside 15-7 to confirm their place in the last eight.

Dino Zammit led the scoring with four goals, while a hat-trick from Julian Chircop and two each from Liam Galea, Jamie Gambin, and captain John Brownrigg caused most of the damage.
