UPDATED: Chaos at Identity Malta as appointments system breaks down

UPDATED: The online bookings system of Identita Malta is showing it is full-up for the whole month of November with no free slots available for appointments.

Confusion and frustration erupted among people waiting for services at the Identity Malta office in Blata l-Bajda earlier today as the appointment system broke down due to an exceptionally high volume of service requests. Appointments were cancelled and had to be relisted manually on the spot as residents waited in the long queue to get a service.

Identity Malta is still dealing with the fallout from a scandal in which thousands of Maltese addresses were fraudulently used by migrant brokers to bring in third-country nationals.

There were up to 100 people at different times waiting to get services.

  1. The same happened about 3 months ago after a power cut on a Sunday – Monday morning ID Malta were in total disarray and told people to come back the next day. What a mess!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but five years ago an exercise to issue new ID Carda was carried out in every town and village where everyone could go to the local school for renewal. Now these are all up for renewal. How can complete towns and villages go down to ID offices for such renewals at the same time? For example on 18 November everyone in Luqa need ro renew their ID Cards.
