Quincy Jones, the iconic music producer and composer who shaped modern music through groundbreaking collaborations with stars like Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Ray Charles, has passed away at age 91. His publicist confirmed that Jones died peacefully at his Los Angeles home on Sunday, surrounded by family.
Jones’s career, which spanned over 75 years, produced some of music’s most memorable milestones. He was the mastermind behind Michael Jackson’s record-breaking Thriller album and oversaw the creation of the 1985 charity single We Are the World. In film, he famously scored The Italian Job (1969) starring Michael Caine. His achievements garnered 28 Grammy Awards out of an astonishing 80 nominations, and Time magazine recognized him as one of the 20th century’s most influential jazz musicians.
In a statement, his family celebrated his life and legacy. “Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jones’s heart will beat for eternity,” they shared, adding that he was “truly one of a kind.” Jones, a father of seven, leaves behind children including music producer Quincy Jones III and actress Rashida Jones.
