A former Army Major and FOX-TV shows host will be replacing four-star General Lloyd J Austin as US Secretary of Defense. Pete Hegseth served in Iraq and Afghanistan before switching his career to media and journalism. He is known for criticising “woke” policies in the military, and is against having women serving in combat roles.
He has been a strong critic of the U.S. government’s handling of defense spending, even claiming that the U.S. is far behind China in military buildup and capabilities. He has also strongly advocated for Ukraine to receive more weaponry and to be permitted to use these weapons on Russian soil.
