Civil society group Repubblika has reaffirmed its commitment to holding those in power accountable, regardless of political affiliation.
At Saturday’s Vigil for Truth and Justice, held at the Great Siege Square in Valletta, Repubblika President, Vicki Ann Cremona addressed the crowd. Responding to recent scandals, she highlighted Repubblika’s role in exposing corruption, defending the rule of law, and advocating for good governance.
Cremona criticised Minister Clayton Bartolo for awarding his wife a €70,000 salary, calling it a blow to meritocracy and a disregard for the sacrifices of students and professionals. She also questioned the government’s double standards, citing the quick dismissal of female ministers compared to tolerance toward males.
Vicki Ann Cremona revealed a strategy document, Defending Integrity, (which can be found online) outlining reforms to tackle corruption, including stronger ethics codes, freedom of information, and empowered anti-corruption institutions.
“We exist to fight corruption and deceit,” Cremona stated, vowing to continue Repubblika’s mission to ensure Malta serves its people, not a corrupt elite.
