€14 million worth of cocaine seized at Freeport in police operation

Police uncovered approximately 100 kilograms of suspected cocaine during a raid at the Freeport on Wednesday evening. The drugs, which have an estimated street value of €14 million, were hidden in 50 packages concealed inside cable reels within a container.

The container had arrived in Malta from the Port of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The discovery was made as part of ongoing surveillance efforts by the police, supported by the Customs Department, to combat drug trafficking.

The cocaine was confiscated, and investigations are underway. Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia has opened an inquiry into the case.
