A number of bomb scares have been sent to several schools around Malta via email, The Maltese Herald can exclusively reveal.
The first to receive a threat was the Higher Secondary in Naxxar as well as the Naxxar Primary and Secondary.
This was followed by threats at St Michael’s Secondary in Santa Venera, St Joseph Blata l-Bajda, St Dorothy’s in Sliema, St Francis in Msida, St Michael’s Junior School in Pembroke and St Catherine’s, also in Pembroke. Immaculate Conception in Tarxien as well as San Anton in Imgarr also received a threat.
Some residents in the areas close to the schools also had to evacuate their homes for a short while.
At the time of writing, everything seems to have gone back to normal.
This week, the OSCE summit currently being held in Malta is putting a strain on police and security services who are focused on the summit.
Other media reported that all state schools received a threat but this appears to be false.
