Breaking: Hamas accepts Egyptian brokered-deal to share power in Gaza with Fatah

Hamas has just accepted an Egyptian brokered deal to share power over Gaza with the the ruling-party of the Palestinian Authority, Fatah. The deal was negotiated in Cairo with Khalil al-Hayya representing Hamas and Azzam al-Ahmad representing Fatah. Fatah and Hamas will appoint a committee made composed of up to 15 technocratic and non-partisan individuals to head Gaza’s administrative government.  The deal has yet to be ratified by Palestinian Authority President and Fatah’s leader Mahmoud Abbas.

Hamas is still at war with Israel and potentially holds up to 100 Israeli hostages in its custody. It is also unclear how the the new Palestinian administrative government of Gaza  will effectively take control over Gaza as Israel intends to occupy it with a military administration.
