Some may have thought that the Labour MP leaking the Prime Minister’s discourse during parliamentary group meetings to the Nationalist Opposition, is an act of bravery intended to undermine the Prime Minister for a new revolutionary beginning for Labour.
It’s actually more about petty factualism and individual rent-seeking.
Agriculture Minister Anton Rerfalo is in cahoots with Opposition MP Alex Borg for personal and opportunistic reasons, and mainly to get back at the Prime Minister due to an original grudge pertaining to the fact that Robert Abela denied him the Ministry of Gozo to a new emerging political heavyweight that could further eat away at his political influence in Gozo. This was after having been denied the Gozo Ministry by then Premier Joseph Muscat in 2017, compounding even moreย his frustrations over his fading authority in his village-district.
Current Minister of Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri isย a close ally of the Prime Minister and Anton Refalo is siding with Joseph Muscat’s faction to undermine Abela. Previously, Minister Refalo was also forced by Abela to give back a historic roadmarker he stole to Heritage Malta.
Right now, the Prime Minister has many enemies but this is, of course, all of his making, having built his political career wheeling and dealing with criminals both outside and inside politics. A Devil’s Pact that has devoured both him and his previous master Joseph Muscat.
