Two arrests in connection with gruesome case of body found in suitcase in Gzira

Two men–a 43-year-old Colombian and a 39-year-old Portuguese–were arrested in Msida in connection with the dismembered body that was found in a suitcase in the sea in Gzira.

From the autopsy, the Police confirmed that the victim, a foreigner who has not yet been identified, died of suffocation and had 101 capsules of suspected cocaine in his stomach. Although initially it was said that he might have died because of these capsules, the forensic evidence rejected this theory.

Sources said that the murder took place no more than 12 hours before the body was cut into pieces using an object compatible with an axe and thrown into the sea near Manoel Island.

The case is being investigated by Magistrate Ian Farrugia, with the help of forensic expert Mario Scerri.
